Established in 2003 as the A.J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute, DNI was created to coordinate interdisciplinary research, education and outreach, and strategic partnerships in nanotechnology for all of Drexel University. After 10 years of successful collaborations within and beyond the University, DNI’s name was changed to the Nanomaterials Institute in 2013 to better reflect its strengths and unique capabilities within this important subset of materials (and nanotechnology) research.

DNI has hosted successful REU, RET, and IGERT programs, and helped to establish a Nanoscale Materials and Nanotechnology track for undergraduates in Drexel’s Materials Science & Engineering department. In addition, the institute has enjoyed a longstanding collaboration with Drexel’s Centralized Research Facilities, to the benefit of affiliated Drexel researchers as well as industry collaborators.
